Pinwheel and Art Quilt

Welcome one and all to the madness of my brain.  I finished two quilts this past couple of weekends and figured I would post a few pictures.  I am also doing a series of post over at Tattoo Artist Magazine regarding the train-wreck Best Ink that is currently on the Oxygen channel.

Keep in mind that I do not condone tattoo shows because they are just a bunch of hype.  But I figured I would give my two cents and have a little fun doing it.  If you do not mind colorful language and sarcasm go check it out.

Anyway back to the quilt.  One is a basic pinwheel quilt and one is an applique art piece I am calling Under the Bough of Yggdrasil.  Yggdrasil is a giant ash tree in Norse mythology.

Dream Weaver and Extra Fabric

Hello Fellow Quilters!

I recently bought Tula Pinks book Quilts from the House of Tula Pink from her website.  When I got the book I also got all the fabric to make the Dream Weaver quilt that is in the book.  This has to be the biggest quilt I have ever made.  Damn  thing is huge...well huge to me...

It is a nice sunny day here in Texas and I was able to get some good outside shots of it by the pool.

Finished Size: 80" x 96"
Fabric:  Prince Charming

Quiltcon: Day One

DAMN!  Quiltcon is the shit!  It is so fucking awesome!  Sorry make the folks who aren't here feel bad but it is jammin'.  My first day was spent taking a class but the AWESOME Angela Walters.  I learned a lot!  We were quilting on white fabric and that made me a little self-conscious about my quilting but, hey, I have only been quilting for a little over a year, so I need to recognize!

Here are a few pictures from the class:

Sew Stitchy Quilt

We're less than a week away from Quiltcon.  I am pretty excited. I am taking a freemotion quilting class by Angela Walters.  Hope to get some good tips.

I finished this quilt a couple of weeks back and I did not post anything about it.  The fabric is designed by Aneela Hoey called Sew Stitchy.

Quiltcon Five things about me....

So the Modern Quilt Guild has a post up in preparation for the QUILT *f'in* CON so that folks can have an easier time meeting a greeting! If you want to do the same thing you can go to MQG blog and get up with the get down.

You can also, if your so inclined, post 5 things that folks may not know about you. Hmmm that is hard....Well at least 5 things that most of the quilters that read my blog may not know about me.

1. I have only been quilting for a little over a year.

2. I used to dress up like a bloody fool and try to play music.

Mortryne and VicThor of Sakrefix at Red 7, Austin, TX

3. I might look like a party animal but I am straight edge! xVx

4. I have been married for over 20 years to the coolest person in the world!

5. Even though the above picture makes me look like a freak, I am really a pretty nice guy...Just think of it as something like a horror movie.

Bonji Wall Hanging.

A bonji represents a seed syllable.  The most common seed syllable that most people know is the Om.  In Buddhism there is a Bonji that represent different deities and bodhisattvas. This is a simple lay buddhist's way of explaining a deeper more powerful meaning behind the seed syllable.

I have always been drawn to bonji.  They are beautiful to me.  So I wanted to create wall hanging of them.

Here is the top with all of them together.  I put a silhouette of the Buddha in the middle.

Kimono Wallhanging

Second project of the year.  I feel alright about this.  I think the Mrs. had the right idea and I should have broken up the blocks with some solid color.  The tabs are too long too but that was my first time making tabs so it is a learning process.  Overall it isn't too bad.

First Quilt of the Year

Nothing like starting off the new year right!  First quilt finished on New Years Day.  The design I did in EQ 7.  Just have square triangles put together to make a zig zag pattern.  The Fabric is designed by Sheri McCulley Studios and called Woodland Tails.  It is put out by Riley Blake Designs.
